The footage shows a dramatic scene in Hostomel, Kyiv region, in 2022. A military attack helicopter, apparently a Russian Ka-52, flies extremely low over a residential area. Behind it, a thick column of dark smoke rises into the cloudy sky, suggesting that fighting or a strike has taken place nearby. The helicopter passes close to apartment buildings, creating a striking contrast between an ordinary civilian neighborhood and active military aviation. The video appears to have been recorded quickly on a phone from street level. On the left side of the frame there is a modern multi-storey residential building, while several civilian cars are parked along the road below. Bare trees and the cold, grey weather give the scene a distinctly winter atmosphere. Within only a few seconds, the helicopter disappears from view, leaving the enormous plume of smoke as the dominant feature of the skyline. The scene is consistent with the battle for Hostomel and Antonov Airport on February 24, 2022, the first day of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Reuters reported that Russian helicopters attacked the Hostomel airfield near Kyiv that day, while Ukrainian military authorities later said that around 20 Russian helicopters and Mi-8 aircraft had been involved in bringing airborne troops into the area. Antonov Airport was strategically important because of its location close to Kyiv. Russian forces attempted to seize the airfield so that additional airborne troops and equipment could potentially be brought in rapidly by aircraft. Heavy fighting followed, and Ukrainian forces contested the airport, disrupting the plan to use it as an effective airbridge for a rapid advance on the capital. Taken as a whole, the short video captures the extraordinary proximity of the fighting to civilian life in Hostomel in 2022. The low-flying helicopter, the huge column of black smoke, the residential buildings, parked cars and ordinary street below show how suddenly a peaceful urban environment had become part of a major battlefield. The footage is brief, but it conveys the tension, confusion and scale of the events unfolding around Hostomel during the opening phase of the war #гостомель #fyp #рек #война #россия
