deda7 :
If you look back at what was said in that verse of the Qur’an, you will find an emphasis on taking from the Gospel the WORDS OF GOD. That is a very important distinction. It does not say to take from the entire Gospel, but rather the words of God within it. Those words cannot be altered, not the additions made later by people who, by the way, never met Jesus and each authored their own accounts. Therefore, they cannot be identical to the original Gospel that was revealed to Jesus.
Returning to the point that God’s words cannot be altered: if you compare the Gospel and the Qur’an, you will find many shared rules and teachings. For example, both forbid lying, adultery, murder, and theft. Both teach that there will be a Day of Judgment, where people will be held accountable and ultimately enter either Paradise or Hell.
From the Islamic perspective, these shared teachings are understood as the original words of God, taught to Jesus and later reaffirmed to Muhammad (peace be upon him). Since Muhammad came later, he would naturally reference the earlier revelations of God.
As Muslims, we do not deny that the Gospel was originally revealed to Jesus by God. What we reject is the belief that it remained unchanged, as we believe and at this point everyone knows alterations occurred over time.
