@author_matthewflagler: Some folks hear “decolonization” and immediately imagine chaos. Usually because they’ve been taught the wrong definition. Here’s what decolonization actually means — and what it absolutely doesn’t. #decolonize #truthandreconciliation #canadianhistory #colonialism #canada_life🇨🇦

As a Canadian who's parents emigrated from the UK, I was deeply upset in 2021 to learn of the unmarked graves. I donated to The Indian Residential School Survivors Society. Lately, I've been educating myself, reading books about Indigenous people and what happened. My favourite was 21 Things you May Not Know about the Indian act by Bob Joseph. I also included $50 for the Indian Residential school Survivors Society as part of my Christmas donations this year. I purchased an Orange Shirt from the Native Centre where I live in Toronto and wear it every September 30th, to observe Truth and Reconciliation Day. Thanks for all your videos. They're very informative.

Thank you for your voice, if it comes from our own Nehiyawak then it is thrown to the curb and spit on. But, coming from your voice maybe just maybe non Nehiyawak will start to question themselves and actually have more compassion for what we are doing to improve relations and help the land revive the damage done over the years

Excellent post. And it’s presented in a way that many people can understand it. It’s a complex subject, especially so in Canada where we were first colonized by the French then subsequently by the English.

The treaties that were written were also written in English that we couldn't read and are translators weren't always honest with us

This is the most succinct description of colonization/decolonization I’ve heard, and I was a professor of Canadian social policy.

Well said. We are conditioned to be scared of change, and so uneducated about the facts.

IT'S STILL HAPPENING HERE WITH ME IN ONTARIO, CANADA. NO JOB FOR DECADES, PLACED IN A EXTREMELY TOXIC APARTMENT BLDG OF 17TH, 18TH, HARMS LUNGS 🫁, HEART, NEUROLOGICAL ISSUES, SKIN, HAIR AND SO MUCH MORE. LOOK WHERE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE ARE LIVING IN AND SEGREGATED... ABSOLUTELY STILL EXISTING AS I AM IN ONE OF THERE BLDGS WHERE INDIGENOUS GRAVE SITES LIE. THESE BLDGS OF HOUSINGS HAVE BURIAL GROUNDS UNDERNEATH THEM PURPOSELY TO KEEP US GIFTED PEOPLE TRAUMATIZED...

Oh my goodness! Yes!!! Again, in my classes, I hear this EVERYDAY. I am glad to find your page because I feel so emotionally depleted because of the ‘battles’ of trying to inform my school community of these issues. New book I’m reading today: Decolonization and me by Kristy McLeod and Phyllis Webstad.
