@tannerandshay: Denial and bargaining came before Tanner died. I remember one weekend, while Tanner was gone at a cancer retreat, I felt so alone and thought to myself “is this how it’s going to be?” I was devastated, and knelt down to pray to God. I promised God all of these things I would do/not do if he would just save Tanner 💔 I don’t believe God is a vending machine God, he doesn’t work that way. He gave me as much time with Tanner as he could. And I got the most beautiful piece of Tanner to love and raise 🎀 #grieving #griefjourney #griefandloss #grieftok

I hope you’re doing ok Shay. Loosing Tanner was hard. The preparation you both went through together was a beautiful part of your story.

Grief is weird. I was laughing at the burial about the memories and couldn’t get outta bed for 2 weeks after. It’s the MOST fog state of mind, perfectly said

I think grief is different for a cancer wife. I’ve had 2 years to prepare for my husband passing in September. My friends husband died unexpectedly. We’re not the same with our grief.

I think grief is so weird. For me, there are no stages. It’s a weird loop that never ends based on the day, holidays, birthdays, etc.

I’m loosing my little brother to synovial sarcoma the anticipatory grief has been a pain I’ve never known. I look at your videos and try to do some of the things you and tanner have done to memorialize him. Thank you for sharing ❤️

My husband died 2 years ago from Parkinson’s. I have found myself lately speaking about him in the present tense. I feel grief much more during the holidays…..😢

This is my 3rd Christmas without my mom and even though I have 6 grandkids I am so faking it. My heart is just not in it and I feel like I have control over nothing and any of us can die any day and nothing I do can stop it. It sucks.

I can honestly say I have no idea where I am in my grief, my memaw died almost a year ago and I’m just like well she’s gone, sometimes I crack jokes, I just wish I could cry and feel sad but I don’t and I wish I knew why. I was super close to her.

Thank you. I really needed to hear this. I lost my dad on January 15 of last year, and even though it’s been over a year, I’m still finding my way without him. I don’t think I’ve been the same since he passed, and there are times I feel a bit disconnected from the world. I’m so sorry for your loss as well. My dad also had cancer, and we had very little time—less than five months. Everything happened so quickly, and some days it still feels hard to fully grasp. Thank you for sharing your story and for speaking so openly about grief. It meant a lot to me and made me feel less alone. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

It’s weird but even though we are different what you described is also the way I’ve been grieving my best friend that died 3 years ago. There’s definitely different stages that you talk about. I remember the fog all too well, than the anger, and the bargaining. “If only” the pandemic and the quarantine didn’t happen we would have had more time before she died. (She didn’t die of covid but the pandemic happened near the end of her life.)

Watching you live to the fullest when Tanner was dying was a really good lesson in what everyday life should look like. Cherishing and making the most of every moment. Thank you.
