this is not how you stay friends with someone post breakup. you give them space for a few weeks or a few months, and then go back to just that. friends. if you want anything more don't stay friends and just go no/low contact

I think you need to go no contact for a little bit so everyone can get used to not being together, and then maybe build a friendship. Staying friends gives the feeling that it’s all the same when it isn’t, and that is what people recieve as mixed signals imo

the thing to staying friends is to literally want to stay friends. if you're staying friends because one of you hopes to win the other person back, then that's the worst thing you can do to yourself. maybe there's still love between you, just not romantic love, and maybe you both want to have the other person in your life, platonically. not because you hope one day something will change

Staying friends after a breakup only works if both parties are emotionally mature. I tried it in my teens and wish I went no contact right away instead. Now I just joke and say that breakup took 8 months 😂

I love staying friends after a breakup. I think it shows maturity. We may not be good as romantic partners, but we're good as friends with no hard feelings. No contact without even a conversation before hand right before Thanksgiving sucks. I hate no contact and ending on bad terms.
