yes, the dog absolutely knows! I am Australian and I had a Canadian friend Dog sit for me once. My dog’s name is Hunter. He always had a pretty good recall, so I told her when she walked him to just walk him off the leash. When she called him to come back to her, she called him HUNT-ER, with her Canadian accent. And he completely ignored her. It took her a minute, but then she called out “HUNTA” which is how we pronounce it down under, and he came back to her immediately! 🤣

I swear that's a thing- I saw a dog on a beach in Brighton, England and spoke to it in my South African accent, and my friend jokingly said that it's a British dog so it speaks British English, so I jokingly did like a Bridgeton accent and the dog got excited 😂

They recognize the way the word sounds when you talk to them, not the actual word. So it means they not recognize commands or calls if said on different tones/words

They had 2 german shepherd police dogs but they only understood commands in Russian. They we sent to the US to be on a police squad somewhere and the wouldn’t respond to English commands only in Russian

I’m in the UK we picked up our puppy from Wales yesterday and brought her back to the West Midlands. I literally said to my fiance I bet she’s wondering why we all sound funny 😂 there’s a big difference between the Welsh accent and our accent!!

omg, when we first rescued our dog he was 2 years old and he seemed to be well trained but he didn't know simple commands. but then I found out that he knows them in French. 😁

I think they do! My husband is a kiwi and we live in USA. One night they featured NZ on House Hunters intl and kiwis were in there and my dog listened then looked at my husband.
