@ourgrimpast: In 1953, during Operation Upshot–Knothole, the U.S. fired the first and only nuclear artillery shell in history. The test, called Shot Grable, used the M65 “Atomic Annie” cannon at the Nevada Test Site. The 280 mm shell traveled about seven miles before detonating in the air with a yield of roughly 15 kilotons—similar to Hiroshima. It was meant to prove that a battlefield-deployable nuclear weapon was possible, and the success of the test became a defining moment in early Cold War nuclear experimentation.#nuke #coldwar #fyp #atomic #foryoupage

From 1945-1998 the entire world has dropped 2048 nuclear bombs on the surface of this planet. Why? Not a friggin clue since quite literally the outcome if anyone were to use them now, would be the destruction of all topside livable land in an instant.

Imagine it was just propaganda. There was already a nuke test but they show this artillery to make it seem like we had the capability to lunch these on the battlefield
