once I became homeless bc my mom kicked me out 1) I got undiagnosed with anxiety 2) grades skyrocketed 3) I managed to get a solid circle of friends whom I meet up with weekly. it was the best thing to happen to me

Yeah I didn’t start driving till I was 23 and only a little. Didn’t know how to navigate the world and felt hopeless like I would never know how to live in the world like everyone else. Finally learning how to manage life but took a while, 40 now

The hardest thing about narcissistic recovery is going back to all the conversations where they were trying to dismantle your confidence. Every time I struggled in a new city, my mom will try to get me to move back in with her. She wants told me that male friends only want to be friends with me for one reason and we’re not my real friends. I told her that was like saying I’ve never had friends and she replied “I know “.

Yupp. One parent with ocpd the other I suspect is a covert narcissist. Never been allowed to have any life skills, freedom, even a job. It would surprise ppl who know them if I were honest about this bc they pretend otherwise or that I’m too unstable

on an adjacent topic: i don't trust the x-step groups, because so many of them smack of religious brainwashing. like: giving in to a higher power, giving gratitude to that power, rather than yourself and your support system. i've seen that brainwashing inevitably wear off on ex-addicts, and it's devastating.
