a presa canario almost ended my grooming career with one snap at my bicep. he was 110 pounds at 10 months old. this was in front of the owner who refused to believe his dog was anything other than a harmless puppy "just playing" and tried to say it was because we forced him to bring the dog in so early in the morning (like dogs can tell time!). we had told him that was the only appointment he could have because the dog was too aggressive to be in the salon with other dogs present. presas are very serious dogs. they are no joke, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that that dog got euthanized because of his owner's inability to train the dog he acquired.

another effed part of this is that her partner couldnt file a wrongful death suit because gay marriage wasnt legal at the time nor domestic partnership eventhough they had been together for 20 yrs...

Even if it was because of a perfume/scent - it’s still their responsibility as pet owners to maintain control, ESPECIALLY in public. 😑 The audacity to even think of victim blaming in this situation is insane.

I love dogs but I am terrified of larger dogs only because I don’t know how their owners have raised them and I’ve experienced first hand the bite of a 110 pound dog and it’s is so scary

I’ve trained protection dogs and live in the Bay Area. I drill into my clients the amount of skill it takes to handle a dog of that caliber because of this story and so many more. Not that those dogs were ever “trained” or even treated well

the thing abt attack dogs is they don't just kill everything in sight... they follow commands to kill as well as commands to STOP. this means even if go some reason they misinterpreted a sound or movement as signal to attack, they would immediately stop upon being told to do so. they clearly didn't tell the dog to stop.
