@birds.wildlife.nature: A wandering poet on the border, a bird born from shattered rainbows. Its habitat spans the U.S.-Mexico borderlands, migrating between deserts and tropics—a symbol of life’s untamed spirit, unbound by borders. The Varied Bunting (Passerina versicolor) is a small, vibrantly colored songbird found in the southwestern United States, Mexico, and Central America. Males are particularly striking, with a mix of deep purples, blues, and reds, while females and juveniles are more subdued, displaying brownish-green tones. They inhabit arid and semi-arid scrublands, thickets, and canyons, feeding mainly on seeds and insects. Known for their melodious songs, Varied Buntings are often elusive but highly prized by birdwatchers. Their populations face threats from habitat loss due to agriculture and urbanization. #variedbunting #birds #DidYouKnow
