people always talk about peep's sound but don't talk enough about how good of a writer he actually was. like genuinely, lyrically, the way he could take something as simple as being sad in a bedroom at 2am and make it feel like poetry without even trying too hard. that's a skill most artists never actually develop even with years in the industry i think part of why it hit so different is he wasn't writing to sound smart or deep, he was just writing exactly how he felt in the moment, no filter, no metaphors dressed up to impress anybody. lines that felt like texts you'd send your best friend at 3am when you're not doing good but don't wanna say it directly. that kind of honesty is rare in music period, let alone from someone that young go back and actually read his lyrics without the beat playing sometime. it hits completely different. some of it reads like journal entries, some of it reads like letters he never sent, some of it is just raw stream of consciousness pain turned into something you can sing along to in a car with your friends without even realizing how heavy the words actually are until you're older and you relisten that's kind of the genius of it honestly. he made devastating stuff sound comforting. made loneliness sound like company. made the worst nights of your life sound like something you could dance to or cry to depending on the day, sometimes both in the same three minutes and he did all this while still figuring himself out in real time, publicly, without any kind of playbook for how to do what he was doing. nobody handed him a blueprint for blending emo and rap the way he did, he just built it from scratch out of whatever he was feeling that day. that's not something you can teach somebody, that's just pure instinct and pain turned into art i think that's why new people keep finding him years later and feeling like he's speaking directly to them. the writing wasn't tied to a specific moment in time, it was tied to being human, being sad, being young and confused and trying to figure out how to survive your own head. that stuff doesn't expire anyway if you've never actually sat with his lyrics without the beat distracting you, do that sometime. you'll understand why this fanbase holds onto him the way we do rest easy gus, your words are still doing the job you made them for 🖤🥀 #lilpeep #depressed #sad #sadtoks #gbc
