In the beginning, a person with strong narcissistic traits may make you feel like you are everything they have ever wanted. When they’re hot, they’re HOT. And when they’re cold, they’re COLD. That is what makes the hot-and-cold cycle so emotionally exhausting. They notice you. They admire you. They constantly message you. They make plans for the future. They make you feel chosen, special, beautiful, understood, and almost impossible to replace. You may think, “Finally… someone loves me the way I have always wanted to be loved.” And then something changes. The warmth becomes distance. The person who once couldn’t get enough of you suddenly acts irritated by your presence. The messages become shorter. Affection disappears. Compliments turn into criticism. Emotional closeness becomes silence. You start wondering: What did I do? Why are they different? Why am I suddenly not enough? How can I get the person from the beginning back? And this is where the cycle can become incredibly painful. When affection repeatedly appears and disappears, you may find yourself working harder for the next moment of warmth. A small amount of affection after days of emotional distance can suddenly feel enormous. You stop asking whether the relationship is healthy and start asking how you can become lovable enough to receive the warmth again. But please remember this: Someone becoming cold toward you does not mean your value decreased. Their inability to offer consistent love, accountability, empathy, or emotional safety is not proof that you suddenly became unworthy. And when they become “hot” again—when they return with affection, apologies, promises, gifts, tears, or declarations of love—don’t judge the relationship by that beautiful moment alone. Watch the pattern, not the promise. Real change isn’t one emotional conversation. Real change is consistency. Accountability. Respect. Safety. Changed behavior over time. Healing begins when your question changes from: “How can I make them love me like they did in the beginning?” to: “Why am I fighting so hard for a love that keeps making me question my worth?” You deserve a relationship where you don’t have to decode someone’s mood to know whether you’re loved. You deserve affection that doesn’t disappear whenever you establish a boundary. You deserve communication that doesn’t leave you constantly anxious. You deserve love that feels safe—not love that keeps you emotionally starving and then gives you just enough warmth to stay. Grow. Heal. Set boundaries. Get closer to God. Rebuild the parts of yourself you abandoned while trying to save the relationship. And remember: Losing someone who could not love you consistently does not mean you lost yourself. Sometimes walking away from inconsistency is how you finally begin finding yourself again. Have you ever experienced the hot-and-cold cycle? What did it teach you about yourself? #creatorsearchinsight #fyp #covertnarcissist #narcissist #narcissistic
