Rockets use an oxidiser, usually liquid oxygen or ammonium perchlorate, to allow the fuel to burn in a vacuum. Rockets also gradually curve east during launch, in the direction of the Earth’s rotation. This gives them a boost towards orbit, making the launch more efficient.
