From what I read, Japan cremates because of how much earthquakes and other geological reasons, if they were to bury the people they can resurface due to those issues and have health risks.

Japan is prone to flooding and typhoons… cremation is acceptable because caskets can be unearthed and float in the streets or be lost to the sea. It’s not because of religion, it’s because they don’t want to see caskets and displaced corpses in their streets.

I understand both sides, but you also have to understand Japan is suffering from land scarcity so casket burial is unsustainable and high costly
