@craft_in_america: A travisher is a hand tool used for shaping the hollow portion of a chair seat to create a comfortable surface to sit on. Fabiano Sarra, independent designer, maker and educator based in Rochester, NY, made this particular travisher. Sarra has had a longtime interest in the surface textures of historic furniture and housewares. Seeking authentic ways of reproducing these textures, he found his way to becoming a toolmaker. He designed this travisher in collaboration with Aspen Golann and Peter Galbert through the Chairmakers Toolbox. “Tools of the Trades” is part of Handwork 2026 and runs through January 24, 2026 at the Craft in America Center in Los Angeles, CA. @handwork2026 #contemporarycraft #americancraft #craftinamerica #craftinamericapbs #woodworking
