With the pushy stick method. Splint the wood, but not all the way in half. Jam a small bit of kindling in the crack at the end facing away from you. The gap in the wood should allow air to the kindling which should also catch fire after a bit. You can also use dryer lint to help start fires easier

No expert but pine is kind of too sticky. A fairly hard wood spindle and a soft-ish non conifer like dogwood for the fireboard is good.

I think there's more to it. When ice seen videos of people who do it regularly there's a lot more prep for the kindling, using super fine shavings or pre burned cotton, pine sap, cottonwood fluff, or dried birch bark and they still had to put a lot of labor into it. 🤔

Did you cut a notch? The dust need a place to land below the heat in order to catch from the heat and friction. Notch cutting is very specific, as is the height of fire board. Best fire board I made was from sycamore root!

When im using the fire bow method I cut a notch in the block where the spindle meets the block that way oxygen can get to the friction point. The smoke is a good start just need a little bit of oxygen. Also have you a tinder bundle made of a fine/dry material that will easily light. Once the ember grows dump it onto the tinder bundle and gentle blow to ignite. May want to consider some char cloth that will keep things up a bit.
