@jasongoldmanmd: Over the past two days, I’ve been in Washington representing the American College of Physicians at the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). I am deeply concerned by recent decisions that weaken long-standing, evidence-based recommendations for the universal Hepatitis B vaccine at birth—a policy that has saved millions of lives. Decades of research have confirmed the safety and effectiveness of this vaccine. By weakening this recommendation without scientific justification, we risk creating confusion, increasing vaccine hesitancy, and putting lives in danger—especially the most vulnerable. Public health decisions must be guided by evidence, science, and patient safety—not conjecture or misinformation. When science is ignored, trust is undermined and lives are placed at risk.
