That comment is crazy, I’m a black woman and my 2 kids just so happen to be dogs. I have loved animals my entire life, my favorite animal is an Orca. The only reason I am not a vet is I could never put an animal to sleep, my heart would break too much. Thank you for showing that black people do in fact have animals and love animals. 💕💕💕

My son LOVES animals. I legit think he might become a vet. He has been asking for pets since he was young. He started with a pet snail, then a fish and has just graduated to 2 kittens for his 8th birthday. He literally tries to steal eggs from the fridge so he can incubate them so we can have baby chicks. 😂

My mom is by no means an animal person, but after I obtained my Bachelor’s in Biology she actually surprised me with a trip to South Africa for a hands-on African wildlife veterinary experience—and she even came with me! We worked with large African game species, which was incredible. I ultimately decided not to pursue vet school, though, and I’m now back in school to become a Research LVT instead, and possibly a VTS in neurology! Definitely need more black individuals in the field for sure!

yes we need more black people in animal ownership, love, care etc. because on a selfish level, i shouldn’t have to be dissuaded from large animal care because of how unsafe it is for black professionals

This is true... it changed when we were placed in urban areas and had less space around us. Black people raise their animals with love and respect. All you have to do is literally look. I grew up with horses; my dad owned a dog kennel and later bred horses. Cowboys were black men first... history tells you more than your lived experience.
