DO NOT READ the body keeps the score, especially if you’re still in the environment that causes some of your trauma

Swap the body keeps the score for “What My Bones Know”… trust me! Written by a POC about their OWN experience with CTPSD without being retraumatizig or giving you info you don’t need.

I’m a big reader. Every time I picked up the body keeps the score, I couldn’t finish more than one page. My therapist and I agreed that my body was protecting itself

Totally get your point. But without The Body Keeps the Score’s popularity, I don’t know that we would be talking about somatics.

You don’t need to read The body keeps the score, the title tells you everything the books says. It just says it over & over & over. Totally overrated

the Body Keeps the Score is ONLY book Im aware of that took into account the individuality of trauma survivors in that he suggested in MULTIPLE HEALING MODALITIES 2 treat trauma bc survivors may not respond well or be helped by the initial techniques they try. if somatic or polyvagal doesnt work, the body keeps the score offers other alternatives 👏👏👏

Okay first yes totally agree body keeps the score is definitely not an entry level book. But I will add that for those who are intellectualizers (did I make up that word idk?) it’s helpful and validating in a sense that may open the door for some to want to dig deeper and keep going to find solutions. Personally, as an intellectualizer, when I was starting to work through PTSD I was feeling like “lol ain’t no way I’m coming back from this it’s too messed up” so understanding some of the heavy brain research stuff helped me see that I could. I have hopped around and read random chapters from time to time so I think it’s one you don’t have to read cover to cover to find some good stuff!

100% agree. I was triggered by the first vet story. As a survivor of trauma it felt like the actions were justified. My mind was not ready to handle it.
