I wanna have control, I want a perfect body and its Shane in Book 2, following a strict diet and overthinking everything coz he knows that sooner or later things will get out of hand, but at least he can control one thing: his body 🥹

Honestly, I love the book but I sometimes hate how overlooked Shane’s suffering. His obsession over perfection, how reserved he is toward food, good rest etc. because he believes that to perform good, he has to limit himself from all those things. And that never got settled. 😭 (sorry for the english. Not my first language)

i never thought abt him being autistic before but it honestly makes so much sense…but i think he’d be undiagnosed/unaware that he’s autistic and just thinks somethings Wrong with him and uses control of his body and food to cope. and it’s also probably why he loves ilya’s directness so much

I think Shane has rejection sensitivity too which adds even more onto the beginning of his relationship with Ilya and why he was so scared to tell people about them being together, especially his parents.

the way he was eating in the second book i was shocked people weren't clocking he was being so strict and intense about his body and diet bc he needed something in his life he had full power and control over so he had an ed to cope with keeping the secret. so this song fits him so well.

The thing is this aspect with his control issues and body image issues were never really resolved in the book. Yes they get their happily ever after together and Ilya is in therapy but Shane's own issues weren't really addressed. We can only hope after the happily ever after he recognises and gets help for it. Not to even mention the very clear undiagnosed autism.
