I’m going to be honest. Your “oppression” matters more in college than gpa. College is already full of smart people. They want people who makes them look like hero’s helping the worse off. Which is one reason my program took me in instead of the kid who had a 4.0, I have a 3.8 but I have birth defects. He’s perfectly healthy and has better grades. But college funds care more about who makes them look good since it’s already full of smarties. So the best thing to write about is pretty much all the bad that’s happened to you and how you wish to be the first in your family to do well and work through it all. Or atleast that’s how it worked for me cus colleges just want students with sad back stories.

Legit trained for almost a year ti get into club volleyball only to get accepted on one of the good teams but my family couldn’t afford it an the financial aid only took off 500 dollars out of 5500 but the coaches friends daughter got to go free

I will never get over the fact that I tried getting into multiple HEOPs and they kept telling me I couldn’t be accepted bc of my grades, I had a 3.8 out of 4.0 overall in high school so glad to know I was punished for doing well in school 🫠

As someone who was in a very similar situation my advice apply for as MANY outside and inside campus scholarships as possible there are ALOT of scholarships they don’t advertise that are available and if you can go to the cheapest school that’s a sister school to the one you want then get as much money from them as possible and transfer over most schools will meet or exceed their offer for transfers especially if your first year grades are good. Also if you can manage it work serving jobs country clubs and bars are best you’ll get tipped well and a fair amount in cash. Be social while you’re there if you can will help you network find other better jobs and internships. Rely on as many support systems as you can as well make friends with the people who always volunteer and talk in class most are just as smart as they look and loyal as you’ll find. Frankly those tips are what got me into grad school and got me my bachelors with the equivalent of under a semesters worth of debt from my school.
