Free diagnostics will being you customers who demand to know what the issue is the go home and do it. Autozone can scan codes,ok. DIAGNOSTIC can’t be free. $180/200 is franchise price. $90-120 small indie is perfect. Remember cheap prices attract cheap customers and cheap customers are headaches.

I’ve owned both successful and unsuccessful mechanic shops. You’ll get a ton of people hating and saying that $99/hr will make you fail, that’s far from the truth. You’re a fresh business build relationships at low rates with clean work. Once people see you’re worth more go up on the hour and they’ll gladly pay.

I’m 180 to 260 an hour depending on the model of the car and I’m booked out for weeks. Add value to yourself. Don’t lower your prices.

The labor rate should be based off your work. If you are a used tire shop that is doing brakes, recharging a/c, replacing suspension parts, fuel pumps and things like that are very basic and should have basic hourly rate. Now if your guy is diagnosing problem cars that no one car figure out he deserves the $$$. Diagnostics is the hardest part, anyone can turn a wrench.

dont let the insurance company for your business know you sell and install used tires cause it is a huge liability and will drive up the cost substantuly

Take your labor collected for a month, divide it by the hours your open and then divide that by the how many techs you have. You’d be surprised what your really collecting in labor per hour
