I will never understand why I am expected to Bao for my chinese friend's wedding based on the hotel that THEY chose to have their wedding at. Also why make me so stress when yall make me write my name on the angbao or peek inside to see how much I bao. WHAT HAPPENED TO SINCERITY????

Gurl, u are ao damn right! The 30 to 50k could be used better like your future house renovation . Wedding culture in sg is not for young couples, rather to do it for the older folks!

I think increasingly more malay weddings are getting more expensive as well, although there are a lot of couples now who do intimate or DIY weddings. Void deck weddings bring out our culture the best, but after climate change + repeated complaints by a certain community, that communal spirit now has to find indoor venues where it can be more expensive

Precisely. My ex wanted to earn money from the wedding itself, he even told me that he will “only invite people- his colleagues, his bosses, people who can give “big Ang Bao”, the rest of the people, he doesn’t even bother”, I felt that the way he views people is totally wrong, and I’m glad that he’s my ex and not husband!!

I had the small wedding of my dreams!!! it was only my 7 people. a license and mosque ceremony and that's it. home cooked food. sunset. perfect. only awhile after did my parents want to have a reception for their friends and they paid for a small one of 100 people. very lucky and privileged they paid for that but again, i definitely never regretted having the small wedding & wldve been happy with just that. it was perf

LITERALLY. why must u be pressured to have a big wedding ? like it is not a competition to hv a bigger wedding???? it is NOT cheap. have a wedding according to ur own affordability and not bc u jst wnt to be like the rest bc at the end of the day YOU are paying for it.

Agreed. Tbh the smaller the better. Couples who want to get married do not need to impress anyone. I rather hv a small wedding. Invite the ppl who i love and care abt. At least its nt mentally draining to entertain alot of ppl. This shld be a norm!
