Yesterday, whilst cycling along a very busy (dangerous) road in central London, I observed a young guy trying to run across — red for them/green for *mega traffic — whilst pulling a pushchair (with what must have been a tiny baby inside) whilst his v young girlfriend struggling to hold it back. He literally tried to pull them across traffic going at some speed. She managed to hold on and eventually he stopped and stepped back. It is shocking to see this happen in real life: a complete disconnect from genuine threat to life. Thank god she had the strength to hold on to her baby.

I didn’t realize this happened to me until this post! When I first went snowboarding, I was an expert skier. I went snowboarding with a guy. We got to the introductory lesson late so we decided to snow board without instruction. He already knew how to snowboard. I must have fallen 200 times in 2 hours. The same day I took a lesson from a female instructor: not a single fall. I had been using the EXACT OPPOSITE EDGE! I always blamed myself for that experience. I do take responsibility, but if I knew how to snowboard, I would have been able to teach the bare basics of heel turn and toe turn and prevented all of those falls if the roles were reversed.

Wilderness violence is such a great term. I’ve always felt like men purposely try to “test” women, to see if she can “handle it”. And I’ve always been criticised by men for crashing out when I’m taken on long walks or hikes and I’ve felt either unsafe or uncomfortable 😐

My ex the entire lead up to snowboarding for the first time (he was near expert) assured me he would stay on the bunny hill the whole day with me. You guessed it, once we were there he was upset towards the end of the day I didn’t want to do a green run.. I couldn’t control my direction or speed at all.. I had maybe an hour of experience under my belt. I said I’ll hang out it the lodge and you can do whatever slope you want. Stand your ground to these psychos

statistically in dangerous sports like climbing or extreme sports / hiking more men die overall. cuz they tend to take bigger risks so the accident numbers are higher for them.
But in couples when a guy and a girl are doing something risky together, and shit goes south, like they get stuck, or someone gets hurt bad..the story you often hear is that the man makes it out alive, and the woman is the one who dies.
It's a strange pattern because statistically men are the riskier ones but in these life-or-death moments within a relationship..the woman is often the victim who doesn't survive 🤔

I swear my grandpa was trying to off some of his EIGHT children because this man would take them on 8 hour hikes with no water. Somehow they all survived and also loved the outdoors. I think it really saved future me by teaching my dad some outdoors with children fundamentals.

I have actual PTSD from going 4x4ing with a group of guy friends. Had no idea we were going up a mountain, I thought we were going for dinner. We came so close to dying, even they were scared themselves! I spent a good 30 minutes weeping while they silently drove down the mountain. I never went to the mountains with them again.

I was engaged to one of the outdoor guys. If I had married and stayed……. There were so many problematic things that I didn't know at the time. Everyone really encouraged me to stay with him because he didn't really do anything wrong. Thank my body, said no. Your videos provide SO much clarity into that relationship!

A guy in high school took me to the river to jump in during run off. I was lucky Russian olives grew along the bank for me to grab onto or I’d have drowned cause he made it out and just stood there

and if a woman hears a man say “Alpine Divorce” and says anything, the man’s only take away would be, “see, another example of how women have no sense of humor” so it’s up to men to call out other men.

My best outdoor experiences have been with women. My experience of car camping with men is that they don’t know how to put up a tent, cook, get water to the campsite, fold anything up…it is not restful to travel with men

It’s this way with children too. You know how they always rip women to shreds for worrying and then they say “he’s not going to kill them” as if there aren’t terrible things that happen without death

My first time snowboarding was similar w a bf. Rental everything, skinny jeans, my lifeguard dry jacket and pants, long sleeve, regular socks, and borrowed gloves. They took me to the top and off they went and I just flew down the mountain without knowing how to stop. I had to scream at everyone to get out of the way as I sped down the mountain on the “easy” path. I didn’t go up again and sat in the heated lobby. I fell into deep snow and a slope guide asked if I was ok and I was too embarrassed to ask for help and had to wait for someone I knew and flag them down to get help. Never been back since and that was 14 years ago.

In my 20s, I went on a “quick hike” in the Appalachian mountains (in the high heat of summer) with my ex leading the misadventure. We spent the next 15 hours LOST in the mountains, no map, no phones, no food, no water, no shelter, and no bug spray. We were lucky to make it out at all! Then we had to walk many miles down dirt roadways to return to our campsite in the darkness of night. 20 hours of torture.

My dad left me at the top of runs that were too difficult for me multiple times-I remember crying at the top of double black diamond that started with a mogul run…these women in their 50s stopped and checked on me and I was just like my dads waiting for me I gotta figure it out, they stayed with me but like not hovering. Still think about that moment a lot

My highschool buddies said they were going to teach me to snowboard. I was excited! Got all the gear, they took me up the lift, then said "see ya!! You'll figure it out!!" and left me to fend for myself. I accidentally went down a double black diamond (not knowing what colors/shapes/signs meant) then accidentally went down a route with moguls, with all the experienced skiiers screaming at me for "chopping them up" while I was just trying to survive. Then got stuck under a tree in fresh powder, had to unclip, dig myself out, climb the tree with my board, and jump back on to the groomed run. Made it to the end and they didn't get why I was so angry. They thought it was funny.

First time i went snowboarding my ex didn’t even want to show me where to rent equipment. When I finally got ready I had realized they all left without me, i waited at the bottom for them for a long time, later that day my ex abandoned me because he was embarrassed I kept falling and refused to help me up. I ended up sitting in the car for hours ( without heat because he didn’t want to waste gas). I was there for his friends out of town wedding and I still wish I would have called my mom right then and there to pick me up
