You could just rent a bare metal rack, that alone cuts 80% without the layer of cloud services.

If you are in a risk where nobody will use your app, just get a cheap vps. Costs going up from one dollar to two is not a thing to sweat off of.

i use the same setup too. railway for backend server and pinging it with a 24/7 running raspberrypi (using for tailscale exit node). but a new architecture that i have been doing for simple apps is just using the supabase edge functions (serverless), without a dedicated backend at all. supabase handles the auth and hence frontend is able to do database interactions directly and safely
