@itsmurphythegreat: Yesterday was one of the worst and scariest days... I was in Orlando for an FSPA board meeting (supposed to come home today). Jay let the dogs out in the back around lunchtime. Bernard started aggressively barking. He went out to check what was going on. Murphy was on the ground and Bernard was on top of him. Murphy stood up and fell. Stood up and fell. Then had a huge seizure. He then got up and knocked over the chicken wire fence in the back. Jay ran inside to get his leash and Murphy was disoriented. Murphy then charged and ran into the lake. Jay had to run after him and jump into the lake. Murphy was thrashing and panicking. Jay was able to get him and stay afloat to get out of the pond. Melissa next door came running to help. She grabbed Bernard who got out because the fence was now down and who was barking like crazy. They both got Murphy in the lanai (still disoriented) and then he fell in the pool. Jay got him out, dried him off. He took him to the vet. They said to monitor and it could've been a poisonous toad or mushroom or maybe something else. Around 4:30 he had another violent seizure (this time in front of Parker) and began banging into the furniture and kicking and punching (Jay almost got punched in the face). He took him back to the vet and I left Orlando early to head home. Vet did blood panel- white blood cell count high but nothing else showing. Said toxins wouldn't show and it could also be neurological, so we should monitor. Jay brought him home and Murphy had another seizure around 7. I got home at 7:50. Walked in and Murphy jumped on me and gave me a full bear hug and lots of drool, slobbery nuzzles. We kept monitoring and luckily we haven't had another seizure. Today, he is hungry, snuggly and drinking tons of water. We are still monitoring him, so please keep praying. I'm pretty certain that it was one of those bufo toads... glad it didn't do more damage. #triggerwarning #rescued #scary #greatdane #poison
The amount of people who are more afraid of an alligator vs being scared for the dog who had a seizure and could possibly drown in the pond. Idc I’ll fight a gator bare handed if it means saving my dog

I feel like some people didn’t read the post. The dog was disoriented and having a seizure. He knocked down the fence and probably didn’t even realize he was headed into water. He surely would have drowned. My dog has no idea what is going on when he has a seizure.

The amount of people saying “don’t go in the water in florida” as if the poster doesn’t live in Florida and already know this… there clearly wasn’t a choice it’s not like he’s gonna stand there and watch his dog drown

make sure you don't have any Oleander bushes. All parts of it are toxic/poisonous to dogs.
