Nooo they’re finally NOT STUCK with one another! You’ve got it backwards. They were biding their time until the kids were out of the house! You want a nightmare? Divorce while the kids are small. They probably Wanted to leave 2-5 years into it but felt stuck. It’s often a rude awakening when you have that first kid. Sometimes you realize you did not marry the person you thought you married. Babies bring everything out in the open.

That’s why there are seperate rooms in the house. Married 33 years. Haven’t slept in the same room in 10. It’s heaven. I get a full nights sleep not having to wake up to her snoring 5x a night. Also, you don’t need to be on top of each other all the time. People need alone/quiet time. 😉

In Illinois if you’re married less than 20 years you only pay alimony for 1/2 the time you were married. 20 years or more and it’s up to the judge to decide how long the alimony should last.

It’s not just because of the kids. Sometimes it’s the fact that the mother has to take care of everyone with very little support. The husband gets to pour himself into his career, hobbies and work vacations. Meanwhile, the responsible mother works and watches their kids while he’s off having a good time drinking and vacationing with coworkers….female and male. Then, when the kids get older, you look back and see all the fun he had without raising your kids and you just got to raise the kids alone. Then you get gaslit when you bring it up. This is why some women leave. They are tired of being treated like nothing more than a housewife when they also work a full time job.
