In her defense in the books, they pretty much only hook up when one of them plays in the other persons city or when they know they’re going to be at some event and Shane is a neat freak, I guarantee he’s cleaning and prepping constantly

Romance books and tv shows aren’t meant to be hyper realistic. I read heterosexual romance books and I’ve never once read about the FMC getting a UTI lol

The show is written, directed, and produced by a gay man. He made the choice to not include mention of prep (even though it is actually in the books). And characters and relationship dynamics are always kinda unrealistic in romance novels - that’s actually an intentional feature of the genre overall.

This type of romance book and tv show isn't aiming for realism. It's also not just a lack of understanding of the logistics, it's an intentionally fantastic lense. Heated Rivalry isn't trying to be realistic any more than Bridgerton or 50 Shades of Grey are.

To be fair in the show they’re planning on hooking up all of these times. Prep is not mentioned but it’s easy enough to assume it happened based on that fact. And a lot of MM romance books mention prepping but most don’t go into a lot of detail because you really don’t need it. You either already know what goes into it or you’re choosing to glaze over it intentionally anyway. Romance books are not a how-to manual.
