@culturalperspective: The US economy is shifting from creating value to extracting rent—and that's a problem.Apple creates value with the iPhone but extracts rent through the App Store. The financial sector takes 7-8% of GDP (up from 2-3% in the 1950s) largely through fees and asset trading, not productive lending. Housing became an investment vehicle. Airlines and pharma profit through market power, not innovation. Rent economies concentrate wealth and lock out everyone who doesn't already have it.Is the US becoming a rent economy? For that my apologies 🙏 Thank you're billionaires. without you're billionaires you're GDP is much lower. Maybe European standards without our benefits.

Is the stock market part of the rent economy.

Yes. It is a form of Capitalism termed “Rentier Capitalism”. An exploitation of those without wealth while restricting or constricting their ability to access wealth. “Rentier profits” by corporations and the wealthy, are designed to keep masses in financial bondage. It is well underway as we all must see, and if we do not unite and move to stop it, dystopia may very well be the outcome.

Rent economies are monopolistic and it's evident the US is one. This happens when unregulated capitalism is unleashed

The eventual path of a capitalist system will either be towards a rent economy (in other words “neo-feudalism”) or to transition into “socialism”. It remains to be seen what will happen with this country.

America is already a rent economy and getting worse. a 50 year mortgage is basically rent with a little asset appreciation, depending on where you live or die. billionaires must be taxes back to millionaires.
