@hitlistmusic: The newly released 2025 U.S. National Security Strategy contains some of the most stunning claims Washington has ever made about Europe. In this document, the United States openly accuses European leaders of subverting democratic norms, blocking peace efforts in Ukraine, and steering the continent toward what it calls “civilisational erasure” within the next two decades. According to the text, European governments have ignored the wishes of a “large European majority” who want a negotiated settlement with Russia, while simultaneously suppressing dissent, censoring political opposition and undermining fundamental liberties. Even more provocative is the assertion that the EU’s current political trajectory is contributing to collapsing birth rates, a loss of national identity and a rapid erosion of self-confidence within European societies. Washington argues that these trends are not organic but the result of policy choices that have alienated citizens and destabilized the continent. The strategy even calls for “cultivating resistance” across Europe by supporting American-aligned political movements that could shift the region away from its present course. At the same time, the document outlines a dramatic adjustment in U.S. foreign policy: reducing the perception and reality of NATO as an endlessly expanding alliance, stabilizing Europe’s internal politics and removing obstacles to sustained peace with Russia. Whether these claims are a warning, a rebuke or a declaration of strategic realignment, the implications are immense. The question is now unavoidable: is Europe truly guilty of what Washington alleges, or is the United States redefining its global priorities in real time?
