The downvoted commenters are SO wrong. If you disinvite or downgrade someone’s status at YOUR WEDDING that’s a dynamic change and an absolutely MASSIVE one. People do not forget where they were on the most important day of your life and will never forget where they were supposed to be. Weddings are one of the most important days of people’s lives and when you don’t include someone in it: THAT’S a message and OP received it as gracefully as she could.

OP not even asking for her money back that she spent as a maid of honor and trying to prevent drama by not telling her friends until after the wedding shows she isn’t the AH. Also, it’s normal to feel numb at first when separating from an important relationship. Some people feel their emotions later. Also the friend’s insecurities are not OP’s responsibility. And this is coming from someone who’s insecure about a lot of herself. So def not the AH!
