I was in a dv situation and my pit attacked him and she’s now very protective of me with strangers. I kinda hate it because she’s unbelievably loving after she sees the person is fine she will only love on them.

I think the worst issue is the people thinking it’s funny. It’s absolutely not something they should be laughing at.

Is there anything that can be done during the socialization stage to minimize the chances of a puppy developing resource guarding behaviors directed toward people?

The hardest thing is that these people are all laughing and keep pressuring the dog.

We have an Australian shepard who does all 3. Agreed that the guarding a person has been the HARDEST! He even guarded the trainer the first time he met her. For whatever reason he finds value in people. Muzzle training has become a must for us!

could you do a video about dogs that only guard resources from other dogs but not people? one of my dogs does this, and I'm really interested in learning more about why. she's done it since I got her at 10 weeks old.

I have a 10 month old GSD/MAL mix I rescued, since the first day we got him, everytime I feed him, I put my hand in his bowl, if he is in his bed, if I get near him, he wags his tail and has not shown any person guarding.

resource aggression they use it in KNPV but in the pet world it's not approved again aggression is not a behaviour it's a by product

Nothing irks me more than a dog the resource guards something that isn’t even theirs 😭😭

I should send you a video of one of my dogs. she's the oldest and has started resource guarding (of all things) pee! not her pee but another specific housemates pee. it's weird and gross-ish

All this resourceful guarding even “resourceful guarding people” can be prevented with practicing some bounding skills. You just said guarding people we can’t prevent when we can. 🙄

I cant rough play with my husbands dog, when I do my dog thinks shes trying to hurt me and he tries to attack so I had my daughter hold my dog while I played with my husbands dog. when I was done my dog went to attack the other dog I stop him in his tracks now im trying to.find ways where he knows when to protect and when not to.

WHAT ABOUT WHEN A SMALL DOG REACTS TO BEING PICKED UP, what is that? My mom has has her puppy a year and he gets violent but he doesn’t break skin but he does snap. It’s fear but can you tell me what it is and how to treat it, we’re working on trust

The first one isn’t trying to be aggressive the sneezing means he doesn’t want to hurt but he is warning you
