I haven’t read Carrie yet but I did read IT over summer and I totally understand what you mean by not being sure about his writing because the plots themselves are really good however Kings execution and writing style aren’t always the best😬

Can’t understand why people don’t like the great gatsby. I’ve read it twice in different eras of my life and it was masterful both times. Carrie is a good first effort by King. He’s not quite King yet though.

The Phantom of the Opera and Great Gatsby were both fine, but I have no desire to read either again. Carrie, on the other hand, is one I've read more than once. I also like the '70s movie more than the books, but I think that's because I watched it numerous time before reading the book. There's a lot to like about the books, but you can tell that Stephen King hadn't fully developed his craft yet. Better books to try by King would be Christine and Dolores Claiborne; those are a couple of my favorites.
