I imagine I am probably the "toxic partner" in my in-law's eyes. we were friendly for years because my hubbs asked me to be. once he tried to talk to his dad about the abuse and work through it, which of course went poorly, he let me off the leash, so to speak, and I didn't have to be polite and nice anymore. at which point I was blunt and unacomidating when they tried to go through me to get to him.

If you really did that well raising them, they wouldn’t have paired up with a toxic partner, much less allowed them to put distance between them and their family.

I don’t doubt that a partner can drive a wedge in relationships. However, I have noticed that when people find healthy love or see healthier family dynamics, they begin an examination of their own family dynamics.

I’m the “toxic partner.” I have not encouraged my husband (we’ve been married almost 30 years) to go no contact with his parents, even though I went no contact with them three years ago. But now they don’t get the cards, photos, birthday calls, memory books, gifts, etc because guess who was behind all of that? But they blame me.

My husband left home at 16. Done. Moved out of state for college. Met me. His mother and brother somehow blamed me for the low contact. Yeah, no—he made that decision years before meeting me.

Or, the partner is being viewed as toxic bc they’re supporting the adult child in going no contact.

🙋♂️currently being blamed for my partner's NC, because I went NC at 18-20 with both my parents and know very well what toxicity looks like.

I’ve dated a few men whose parents would consider me that “toxic partner” who is meddling in their family by encouraging my partner to stand up for themselves against their horrible abusive parents.

Its me, I'm the toxic "brainwashing" partner! I'm so terrible for saying our family should come first and we need to stop considering his parents opinions and comfort on the major choices we make for our family.

My husband went low contact immediately after graduating high school. I didn’t know this. When we started dating, I just kind of expected us to go over regularly, and didn’t know that he was changing something for me. 6 years into marriage we went no contact with the in laws. It was all his decision and I was on board and supportive of his choices. So weird they always want to blame who their kid married.

My husband stood by my side for the over decade that my mom & I tried to repair our relationship. He was open about his dislike of her (there were so many good reasons to lol), but he NEVER pushed me to go no contact. It's one of the things I'll cherish deeply.

That’s domestic abuse, not going no contact.

Any time I hear of a person going no contact with their parents I always look at the parents, especially if they blame the spouse.

I think a lot of these scenarios boil down to the partner going, "Why do your parents do that?" Which is a catalyst for analyzing what kind of parents they have been and how their current behavior hasn't changed.
