nature cannot be cruel, as it isn't conscious. cruelty is only found in humanity, to see morality as evil is to see evil as moral.

All of these rants are excellent… but I am only in the right frame of mind to sit through them in their entirety 30% of the time.

The overcompensation of the French Revolution in the name of morality does not disqualify the concept of morality, the cruel reaction of the French revolutionaries didn’t come from thin air, if you even analyzed why there would be such a reaction in the first place you would realize the necessity of a good moral system to structure society to avoid exactly such overreactions

I dunno man to describe nature as cruel is to prescribe an indifferent object with intention, just because cruelty exists and begets itself does not mean that it is unshakeable, we can move to minimise cruelty while understanding that it's impetus is unavoidable

it’s an oversimplification to say that nature is only cruel. that the birds only screech in pain. it’s the same as humans, sometimes we cry and screech - sometimes we laugh and sing. i’d argue nature is full of that duality too. nature and existence itself is a self consuming dance between both sides of the spectrum, of which we are a part. i think this view also stems from the western idea that we are separate from nature, rather than being engulfed in it/an extension of it

Good use of Herzog’s quote. I feel as if he is one of the few people who truly understands the true horror of nature
