@looking_for_romans: Crossing Pont du Gard Aqueduct #archeology #roman #provence The aqueduct bridge was used for hundreds of years to cross the Gardon River. Fun fact, there was even some work done to prepare it for a new aqueduct to support the denim industry in Nîmes. The word denim actually comes from the French "de Nîme". Paul Bredt Looking for Romans
It was also really well constructed. Can’t beat those Roman builders!!😁😁😁

Visited 20 years ago and hiked around and saw the extended parts, though the hike was cut short by gunshots from hunters in the area!

I love love love ancient aqueducts. The perfect example of a great civilization is its the aqueduct. The sheer of work that goes into making them is astounding.
