@westernwaterca: When a fire hydrant is struck, seconds matter. 👀💦 A broken hydrant can release thousands of gallons of water per minute, impact nearby roadways, and put pressure on surrounding pipelines. Our Operations crews respond immediately to assess the scene, locate the closest valves, and safely shut down the flow.🤝 This behind-the-scenes moment shows the coordinated teamwork it takes to stabilize the system and protect the surrounding area…work that often happens long before most people even know there’s an issue. To report a water or security emergency, or an after-hours outage, call our 24/7 emergency line at 951.789.5109. For all non-emergency needs, contact Customer Service at 951.571.7104.

Why aren’t dry barrel hydrants standard everywhere for this reason alone? Obviously warmer climates don’t have to worry about freezing, but if a dry barrel gets hit, 4 out of 5 time you just have to get a new breakaway kit and throw that thing right back on.

The most interesting thing about our job in the water production/distribution industry is that you can have a leak like this one day and the very next just a simple service the next. I prefer big leaks to services any day of the week.

Even in the wet barrel isn’t there supposed to be a float that comes up to stop this from happening?

What was he shielding? Could have grabbed the other side of the handle and helped sooner.

Bees have knees? :
I really need everyone in these comments to know that the last couple turns on a valve, particularly one that has pressurized water flowing through it, are the hardest to turn. it's heavier and there can be a lot of resistance
