He is an old bigot…pathetic really….i don’t know what he knows about BC as most of it is unceded territory…the Cowichan decision does not put private property at risk…Cowichan people do not want people’s homes…they have made that clear as has the decision and lawyers who know what they are talking about…these old racists disgrace themselves as do all racists…what is more galling about these types is that they have done well for themselves and in their old age, have developed no generosity of spirit or intelligence for their fellow human beings…this racism is old, unoriginal, and tired and never benefitted anyone…ever….my advice for people like Ron who are basically terrified is to do some research as you say…meet Indigenous peoples and talk to them, open up his mind, and stop with this tired shitty old trope…develop some humanity and intelligence.

The conservative premiers are rallying support thru misinformation and propaganda. The provinces have been violating Treaties since they were formed. I am exhausted with this. I saw the race wars coming! Starting with the sovereignty act the UCP passed it’s going to get worse before it gets better. We must stand together ✊🏽🪶🇨🇦🧡

Most First Nations in BC have never entered into a treaty which is why people now say we are living on unceded native lands. This means the First Nations in BC are sovereign nations who are still in treaty process with the Canadian government. Therefore, any property purchased was never the governments to sell in the first place.

I need to say something that’s fairly important. My two best friends are indigenous. One is from the Sawridge Cree nation and the other one is Gwitchin. I grew up knowing they had treaty rights. I also grew up, knowing those rights were not respected. The fact that they’re still not being respected makes me so angry because they deserve what was agreed to!

If you bought a car, and that car turned out to be stolen, do you think you get to keep the car? Or do you think the person who had their car stolen should get their car back? Regardless of the scale, fraud is fraud. If you obtain land fraudulently (The Canadian govt took land by force outside of the treaty process in BC), then its the person who committed the frauds responsibility to make the wronged parties whole. That is what is happening in courts now. If you are upset about it, be upset with your Government who committed fraud, not the victims of the fraud.

Yes, the situation has directly led to at least some homeowners in the affected Richmond area being denied mortgage renewals. Banks and lenders require “clear title” to approve financing, and the court’s declaration of overlapping Aboriginal title has introduced legal uncertainty, making properties “unfinanceable” in lenders’ eyes. Here’s the evidence:
