@healingwithemilyg: This is something I’ve been struggling with lately. Permanence is difficult for our brains to understand but it’s so important for your healing. #abuserecovery #emotionalabuse #HealingJourney #narcissisticabuserecovery #narcissisticabuse
Being abused will effect every relationship I will ever have forever. Not even just romantic ones.

The trauma bond is such a mindfcxk.

It's the trauma bond. Once you're healed, you will never think twice about looking back. 🩷 Closure is remembering how they intentionally treated you.

Sometimes i want to just go back because of familiarity and the sense of love i felt with him. It feels like a never ending cycle of disliking him and missing him.

My ex was abusive and he did try to change (and made massive changes) after the relationship before coming back to me to apologise and ask to try again. It didn't matter - my body associates him with pain and fear. He came with the accountability, the apology I had always needed and I felt nothing, even though I wanted it to mean something. It's a different kind of grief that I don't think you can understand until you experience it.

This. The hardest part is training your brain to accept that they’re an evil, cruel person who is simply not safe to be around ever again, while your mind keeps serving you only the good moments to help you survive the betrayal.

cannot even revisit being FRIENDS with them, it's such a 🤯 thing to reconcile to understand that the person you thought you loved is not safe in your life in ANY capacity. I have long long moved past ever even wanting to get back together with him but it's bizarre to me to understand he is not safe to even be in my life in any way.

the permanence of the experience itself.. like i’m never going to fully recover from this.. it sounds cliche, but it will 100% affect every relationship i have for the rest of my life.

This is so true. I keep thinking, even if he comes back and apologizes, he will never change. He’s incapable. It’s a personality disorder. I’ve forgiven him many times before and I know for a fact it has to be permanent this time. I’m the only one that can end the cycle and it’s sad.

Literally, it’s not a normal breakup it’s literal trauma. And what makes it worse is that the things they did will never fully leave your mind but it just gets easier to live with .. really messed up

Yup. Don’t ever revisit. It will slow your healing and possibly trigger your trauma. One must flip the switch off, close the door, and never turn back. It is hard. It’s like they died. ✨🙏

I love that you were honest. You know you can’t go back but secretly you want to and wish you could just hold I’m and one final laugh. It sucks that you can’t but realize you’re doing yourself a favor by forgetting him whether I want to or not

Also noting that most (not all) “normal breakups” typically have both parties grieving/talking through it/maintaining civil contact. The only way to have a breakup with an abuser is no contact from the first moment. And for so many abusers, esp narcissists, it’s so easy to just cut you off and never speak again unless they want supply. Meanwhile, the victim struggles through the no contact like they died but still has to be the strong one and resist hovering attempts. It’s EXHAUSTING

I keep feeling like i made a mistake and he could have changed. I feel like that every day and i miss him so much. But just the thought of him shuts my entire body down. It hurts so much

okay but what about hating them and knowing they’re bad for you and horrible to you but now have the courage to let go and leave cause you know that means it goodbye forever

The first night after the break up with my abuser I couldn’t sleep and I remember feeling so anxious being away from him and like he was my drug and I needed my fix. I finally fell asleep on the floor after crying my eyes out and shaking the whole time cause the floor had become my safe space. The abuse was so bad I would go to the restroom and make a bed for me and my fur babies and we would all sleep in there so we could get away from him and he would still come in there and torture me more. I do not wish that on anyone. Surviving my narcissistic drug addict abuser of an ex and finally leaving and getting away will always be one of my biggest accomplishments 😮💨

I think for me the hardest part was how stupid I feel that I let it happen I knew all the signs of abuse I knew so much and I still didn’t even realize I had been abused until I left and told my parents everything he made me feel like it really was all my fault I feel like such an idiot that I didn’t understand what he was doing to me
