Omar Abdi :
I recently saw a situation involving a young lady and some Somali men during a simple shopping interaction. Many people quickly labeled her as racist, but from what I observed, she spoke with honesty, confidence, and clarity. For that, I stand with her respectfully and 100%.
To me, she showed courage. I appreciate her character, and I admire her for speaking the truth without fear. If I knew where she was today, I would thank her personally for her strength and fairness.
However, we must understand the deeper problem. The issue is not this young lady. The real challenge comes from media misinformation, negativity, and divisions created by journalists and social platforms. Too often, media pushes “fake news,” destructive language, and narratives designed to divide communities and nations.
Before we blame individuals, we must address the source — the root cause — which is the media culture that creates confusion, anger, and misunderstanding among people.
Whether the young lady keeps her job or not is not the point. What matters is recognizing the truth:
the real problem did not start with her; it started long before, with the media environment that fuels division.
