This isn’t a restoration lol, this scene never made it past the story boards, you won’t even find a pre-render of this cutscene anywhere, Bungie couldn’t actually decide if they wanted Forerunners to be humans or not which is why the Halo 3 terminals say hint that they’re aliens and dialogue in CE hint that they’re human, Bungie couldn’t decide so left it vague and unanswered on purpose until Bungie left halo and the Bungie writers that wanted forerunners to be alien decided stay with 343 so they officially made them aliens (which is much better for lore building and story imo)

I always thought the “It turns out they’re us” storyline was super cool and wish it stayed that way. But I also liked halo 4, so idk lol.

They coulda left this ending regardless, the skeleton could have a lot of implications to it, such as it being a human aligned with a forerunner

Halo 2 could’ve been the best game of all time if we got bungies original vision, the fact that the game just ends after killing Tartarus is so disappointing

this isn't the complete ending, but rather a small epilogue on Arbiters side after the Ark on earth collapsed. Chief made a quick escape before Arbiter could after assassinating the prophet of Truth
