It’s actually illegal for a public access door not to work (I.e, leaving and coming in from public buildings, but there must also not be another available and “timely” exit, meaning without breakage, you’re trapped and it MUST be durning operating hours), HOWEVER, this is an emergency use door, meaning that is legally required in all 50 states to be able to be used at any given moment at any given time (unless down for maintenance or closure, which requires clear signage and access to another quick and safe exit) , failure to do so is not only highly illegal it’s also a non negotiable for insurance companies and local governments. OSHA, NFPA, Public Safety Act, Right to Public Safety (court precedent), and so much more makes this entire situation illegal, dangerous, and sueable - but not for the court. (I’m willing to bet money on them only suing because insurance refuses to pay - because their policy was broken by not having the door maintained or permanently closed). So in a full look over he can counter sure for negligence among other fancy lawyer terms. The person, under these circumstances would be allowed to sue/counter sue. However we don’t see the full video or know the layout of the place or the situation. If anyone is a manger of a large scale building like a warehouse or retail building, or even larger office spaces, you should already be aware of this with the constant and consistent “do not block exit doors under any circumstances” across any company. It’s also why every door either has a panic bar or a pull bar, and is NEVER “locked”
