Some of the biggest changes in my life have come during periods when I genuinely had no idea how things were going to work out. I remember moments where I felt completely stuck. Where I was doing everything I could, making du'a, trying to find a way forward, and still couldn't see how things were going to get better. And when you're in that position, it's very easy to convince yourself that life is always going to feel this way. But I've lived long enough to know that how your life looks today is not necessarily how it's going to look six months from now. Or a year from now. I've seen Allah open doors I didn't even know existed. I've seen things I desperately wanted fall apart, only to realise later how much good came from them. And I've experienced difficulties that, at the time, I would've done absolutely anything to avoid. But looking back, I can see how much those experiences changed me. And I think that's something we need to remind ourselves of when life becomes difficult. You don't know what's around the corner. You don't know which conversation, opportunity or unexpected change Allah might bring into your life. And you certainly don't know what wisdom there might be in something you're struggling to understand today. Allah tells us in the Qur'an: “So, surely with hardship comes ease.” (94:5) Not every difficulty will be followed by the outcome you were hoping for. And not every situation will make sense to you straight away. But that doesn't mean Allah has abandoned you. Keep making du'a. Keep doing what you can. Keep thinking well of Allah, even when you don't understand what's happening. And please don't make the mistake of believing that because life is difficult right now, your future has to be difficult too. Some of the chapters you'll be most grateful for haven't even started yet. May Allah grant ease to everyone going through a difficult time and give them the strength to keep going. Ameen.
