Space is not the problem, the problem is that their idea of space is full on disappearing for days at a time and neglecting their partner's needs as well. I don't think even a person with secure attachment would want their partner to disappear for days at a time.

As an avoidant, it's so hard to explain why we need space.

My avoidant bf ignores me when I cry, he gets frustrated when I’m sad, he plays video games while I cry, even if he’s the one making me cry. It’s really hurtful.

A week for “space” is actually insane💀 Sure, maybe a couple of hours or a night to sleep it over while thinking (with a little reassurance) is reasonable…. but a week is crazy. It just gets to the point where you just straight up don’t care.

i’m an avoidant person, and i will say that in the moment, yeah, we want to get away, but from personal experience, it’s not because we don’t love the person or anything. for me, it was just so overwhelming and scary to have someone so attached to me, because it really sets the perspective of "whatever i say will affect this person" "their mood also depends on mine", and i think that the idea of having to emotionally support someone else when you can barely emotionally support yourself is so scary. our idea of comfort isn’t necessary "getting away from you" it’s getting away from any issues we might have. in my personal experience, i do feel better after being away from that person, but that’s because i just felt so overwhelmed by the need to have to emotionally secure this person, when i myself didn’t need that reassurance, ykwim? but i definitely agree with what ur saying. avoidant and anxious attachments definitely do not mix well. it’s weird they pull each other in so much

“I need, I need, I need” sounds as selfish as someone ignoring you and demanding space. It’s literally the same coin different sides.

Honestly, I agree with most of the avoidant stuff, but there is a limit for the excuses and explanations. The ”avoidant” person is a person who lacks emotional maturity and is not fit for a relationship. If they cannot take care of someone else’s feelings or even their own, then they shouldn’t be someone’s partner. They have to grow up and realise a relationship is hard work, on both ends! As someone said: Even if you’re a ”secure” person, you wouldn’t like this kind of childish behaviour. End of story
