Oooooh sounds like a cracking 10! Really curious to hear what you think on Katabasis! I didn’t enjoy it and my book club was split 50/50 with people who loved it and who DNF’d it! It’s torn the nation apart 😂

as a german reader and bookseller, i find it so fascinating that jenny erpenbeck has such an international presence, since she’s more of an underdog in germany. we rarely sell books written by her in our shop. nevertheless, i hope you enjoy her novel ✨

I finished "We do not part" in one sitting, it was so beautiful haunting & devastating at the same time.

As a hungarian booklover, Im so glad Krasznahorkai and other hungarian writers are getting more recognition! You should definitely read Szerb Antals Yourney by Moonlight! Thats my all time fav book 🥰

I loved Small Things Like These! I’m going to reread it every December from now on! Have you seen the movie? Have you read Foster? How was Advent? Did you review it and I missed it? I disliked Babel so much and it was a slog for me. I pushed through to the end and it never got better for me. I just can’t read Katabasis because of that.

Great list! 🤩 I’m deciding between Katabasis and Babel for my next read. Which do you recommend to start with?

I have so many people recommending Sayaka Murata to me lately and this was my sign to go finally grab one of her books 🤓

Hated Hamnet - so many casual descriptions of hurting kids with aggressive "punishment" within the first 50 pages that I had to give it up.

Honestly Don’t :
Having 10 before the end on 12/8 and leading with Katabasis is a level of bout that I fear I’ll never reach 😂
