One of the loudest noises on a carrier except flight ops on the deck. Saw anchor drop on Roosevelt once and that truly was a deafening sound even with hearing protection in😄

I use to hate being in the berthing beside the forecastle. Then next deployment under CAT 2 then the 4th under the wires…just say I’ve learned to sleep through some crazy stuff😂 when it’s dead quiet when I wake up and worry🤣

They are 15 ton, older carriers they were 30 ton. The ships are actually held in place by the anchor chain.
