In our African belief, standing by your parents when they grow old is more than a duty or obligation, it is a sacred honor. So many people never get the chance to reach this moment. They never get to see their parents grow old, never get to feel the quiet beauty of having them near, needing you, and trusting you. To be there for your father now, to give back the love, care, and protection he once gave you, is something words can barely describe. It is a full circle of love. I totally understand! My dad at 97 became my child too. His name was Joseph and I started calling him ( little Joey). I also had the feeling of joy taking care of him! He passed November. And I miss him so terribly much. It’s very hard to get my life back together. I’m not really coping well. I miss our routine. I had it down pat ….i just can’t get myself to take care of myself……and start a whole new healthy routine for myself. 😢💔

Dan, I totally get what you're saying. I looked after both my parents with dementia. I enjoyed it. There were some days when I'd sit outside in the sun and cry because I want my "normal" parents back. BUT we had some really good laughs with them and those times always made up for the sad ones. One thing I can truthfully say is that IT WAS AN HONOR to look after my parents in their last years on earth. You're doing a fabulous job. ❤️❤️❤️
