Chances are the fluid and filter change won’t fix it. My cooler lines were leaking and I didn’t notice ran the trans dry refilled it and changed the filter and all the fluid leaked out again. It wouldn’t go into reverse drive or nothing. I replaced the cooler lines and flushed the cooler and refilled the transmission and it still works I put 25k miles on it since then. It slips occasionally in first gear only way to fix that is to replace the clutch packs which is basically a full rebuild. I think you should pull the trans and rebuild it with a new valve body and torque converter but if that’s too much just buy a low mileage used trans.

When my e46 transmission blew it had trans oil everywhere and wouldn't even go into gear and I had a torque converter lock up code don't know if that helps but that was my experience with the ZF 5HP19

mine did this when I blew my transmission. clear the codes and drive it in manual mode. It won't shift into any gears that are gone if they are gone.

my experience with these a fluid flush and filter swap won't help. just find a low milage used trans and do a filter and gasket on that instead

If you don’t get another e46 I’ll be disappointed, I would say fix it but Ik not everyone is able to trans swap but I def wouldn’t just switch cars
