@tannertheplanter: Gnats are really common in houseplants this time of year so I made a video to show you guys how I get rid of them. #plantsoftiktok #plants
I had such an infestation for about three years. It was driving me insane. I tried everything other than tossing all of my plants. I ended up trying Leca clay balls. I put them in all of my plants on top of the soil (I’ve about 80 plants so this was way too much money, but I love my plants) about 2 inches deep and all the gnats are now gone. They haven’t come back, It’s been about six months. It’s just a pain in the backside to water my plants now, but the gnats for whatever reason don’t like clay balls on top of the soil thank goodness.

Are you suppose to put this on every plant you have in your home when you have the plant gnats?!

good info, to add to this
1. adults don't harm plants. only the larva and second stage eats roots.
2. they need light to lay eggs. no light, no eggs.
3. Just cover your soil with tin foil. gnats gone, keep soil covered all the time.

if my gnat problem is bad I will dump my pot, take all soil off the plant, rince the roots, dump boiling water over the soil, wait for soil to cool, and then repot.

I’m using nematodes as a biological control for fungus gnats. And the yellow sticky traps 🙏🏻

Diatomaceous earth sprinkled on top of soil. Repeat each time you water until all cycles are gone. Has worked for me for years 👍🏻😄 also water plants less yes 🤣

This summer I had the worst case of gnats on my indoor plants tha almost drove me off the hill. I switched 90% of the plants to semi hydro and the remaining 10% I started bottom watering and dousing them with hydrogen peroxide every watering day. Finally I started adding DE to the top layer. That finally got rid of most of them, but I still see some buzzing around still and it drives me nuts 😫

I heard sprinkling cinnamon on the top of the soil will also help.

Does your book by chance talk about grow lights? All the information I hear is how to adjust for natural light. I’m still new to this. But do things change for plants in winter still if you have 8hr grow lights on them?
