What’s really interesting is that Gnosticism lines up really well with Eastern Religions (Hinduism, Sikhism and to an extent, Buddhism) - God is within you and in order to reach enlightenment one must escape the illusion of the world, e.g. attachment to material wealth, anger, lust etc.

After reading the Gospel of Thomas, I understand why it may have been left out…it gently dissolves fear, hierarchy, and the idea that God must be reached through ritual, symbols, or consuming a body and blood. It whispers something far more unsettling and far more freeing…that the divine was never outside of us at all… we were never broken, only asleep. And awakening changes everything.
